Staff at Sav La Mar Hospital look at an EKG machine donated to the hospital with
the help from some great people. Quite a few good people helped to get the
machine to the hospital and this great story all started with
Negril.com. One of our boardies Karin posted a message on the
Negril.com message board that an EKG machine was needed at the
hospital. This was picked up by Mickey Ennis who is a Negril regular and who
works at Cardinal Glennon Children's hospital in Missouri. The cardiology
director there (Sue Yates) and a Dr Ian Balfour (a Jamaican who works there)
got approval for the donation. It was the lovely Nurse Marcia who is the
director of Friends of Jamaica USA charity who helped to facilitate the
transport of the machine and other items to the hospital to Jamaica. It was
Nurse Marcia who arranged with Glenn (MoGlenn) and Teresa (Sweetsop) to pick up
the machine in St Louis and carry it to Jamaica.
Glenn and Teresa's travel agent (Donna Wade) helped them to waive any additional
charges for traveling with the excess baggage of the machine and other items
they were carrying.
Glenn and Teresa had a smooth, on time flight and absolutely no trouble
getting the items into Jamaica. They were met by Karin, top hospital
administrative staff, Dr. Hylton and other staff members at the hospital
yesterday. They were extremely happy to receive the machine which will be
shared between the pediatric ward and other areas of the hospital.
This is truly a great story and happened due to the compassion and dedication
of some very nice people. We at Negril.com would also like to express our
appreciation of everyone who helped and are happy to have helped to provide the
forum in which it could happen.
As Glenn has said in the background info he sent me , "this was a truly global
effort all starting with Negril.com and
emphasizing the Friends of Jamaica USA motto 'Together we will make a
difference".
